Roleplay Rules XgspcB3

Before I go over the standard rules here on Lorecraft, I felt it necessary to make this known to everyone. Most systems, such as the stat system, can seem pretty vague but that's because it isn't meant to give your character some edge in combat. It's intended to be an estimation of your aptitude in those areas. What a character is or isn't capable of may be determined by the players involved. If a consensus can not be reached than you may contact a member of staff to render judgement. Thank you.

Starting Threads

Here on Lorecraft we have a brief list of tags which determine the nature and rules of certain topics. The tags may be found below:

[IO] Invite Only | If a topic is marked as Invite Only, this means that only those currently in the topic may invite others to join it. If you have not been invited, then you may not join the topic. This tag may only be used when roleplaying in a private place, however. If you're roleplaying somewhere a person could easily happen upon you or locate you otherwise, this tag does not apply.

[G] General Audience | Topics marked with this tag are the opposite of mature topics. All content must, for the most part, be clean and friendly for all audiences. This means no cursing, blood, gore or other adult themes. Topics with this tag are generally aimed for younger players to roleplay without being subjected to mature content.

[M] Mature | Mature topics are the complete opposite of Everyone topics. In these topics, you may delve into as much sexual detail as you wish. Furthermore, all manner of blood, gore and adult themes are also acceptable. Unlike other tags, however, this one may not be added except at topic creation without the full approval of everyone currently present in the topic. Keep in mind, however, that there are virtually no rules in a mature topic. Themes such as brutal torture or even rape will be allowed so if you're not up for it then steer clear of these topics.

Notes | Tags may be added to a topic at any point in the course of the topic. The only time it may not is if anyone currently in the topic disagrees with it being added. If even one person doesn't want the tag added, and that person has rightfully posted in the topic, then it may not be added. More importantly, IO, or otherwise restricted access topics, are not allowed outside of cities. Cities are the only places where one may find safe haven and use such tags.

Essential RP Rules

God-Modding | God-Modding includes a variety of actions that would be considered impossible for your character, such as dodging every attack (avoiding all damage unscathed) or using a spell, technique, item or any other combat-related asset that your character should not even possess (you may only use something if it's on your Characer Sheet and has been approved by at least one member of staff prior to the thread). It can also take the form of auto-hitting, which is when you make your attack an absolute hit without giving your opponent the chance to avoid it.

For example, "James lunged at Alexander with one quick stride, before immediately driving his fists into the face of his older brother, landing every other hit." will be considered God-Modding and, depending on the severity of the violation, your post may be rendered void. New role-players will be given one warning and the chance to edit before this is enforced, however. Afterward, any God-Modding will result in the nullification of their post. Keep in mind, controlling the character of others in any capacity will be considered God-Modding. You may not dictate the attire, attributes, actions or reactions of any character outside of your own and those you have direct control of.

Meta-Gaming | Meta-Gaming is far simpler to understand. It is when your character makes use of information that you've acquired OOC in an IC capacity. If your character has no means of knowing of something, then it is imperative that you not give them that knowledge. It will be considered meta-gaming and it will be treated in the same regard as God-Modding. All actions derived from the violation will be rendered null, meaning that if you meta-gamed in order to defend against an attack, your defense will be voided and the attack will land. You will be given one chance to edit, but only for the first violation.

General RP Rules
  1. Any post or action that violates a rule or fundamental logic will be subject to staff review, particularly a Battle Moderator.
  2. You may not kill or permanently injure a player character without the owner's consent. Exceptions are war-related topics.
  3. You may not roleplay out sexual assault of any nature, even if the topic is tagged [M]ature.
  4. Anyone who God-Mods or Meta-Games will have their post nullified and any impending attacks will be ruled a hit, pending staff review.
  5. For the sake of consistency and neutral terminology, all posts must be typed in the third-person perspective.
  6. Your signature must contain a link to your Character Sheet in order to maintain easy access for staff and other members.
  7. You may be in any number of social threads but only 2 training threads and 2 quest threads at any given time.
  8. Despite the above limits, you may only be in 1 real battle thread at a time. This does not include sparring.
  9. If someone you're fighting takes longer than 72 hours to respond, you may claim an auto-hit if an attack was launched. If an attack was not launched, you may post again launching one. If they do not respond within 24 hours of your second post then a hit may be claimed.
  10. Any thread where a participant has posted a 'Departure' topic will be frozen and treated as null pending their return. Exceptions can be made by Administration on a case-by-case basis.
  11. Apped NPCs must be treated as player characters in the sense that you may not godmod or metagame them.
  12. PVP is restricted in all cities and may only be engaged in against the unwilling outside of city limits. If you try to attack, or otherwise commit a crime against, anyone in city limits they may then either choose to roleplay things out themselves or scream for the City Guard. If they successfully scream for the City Guard, the topic is considered frozen and a reply must be made in Loremaster Requests. Everyone involved must then wait for a Loremaster to intervene as the City Guard.
  13. Loremasters reserve the right to intervene in any public topic in any way they so choose as to add to the immersion and activity of the world. Their intervention might take the form of vicious beasts, horrific monsters, dastardly bandits or maybe even a simple old lady. When, where and how they intervene is left to the discretion of the Loremasters. This rule serves as a warning only so that no one is surprised when it happens.

Timeline Rules & Progression

The term 'timeline' here on Lorecraft RPG has two meanings. It is used to define the point where a topic begins all the way to the point that it ends. It also refers to the overall timeline of the site, one that all characters must follow. As far as the timeline of topics is concerned, you are limited in which posts you may interrupt the actions of. For example, if someone is attacking another person, you will only be able to intervene if it was that person's latest post. If they attacked someone multiple posts ago, you have already missed your opportunity to act. Keep in mind, the post order is determined by the order in which everyone participating in the topic has posted. If James posted, then Alexander replied and Jessica joined in third, then the post order would be: James, Alexander and then Jessica. If the post order is violated, you may be asked to delete your post or it will be deleted for you.

As far as the over-all timeline of the site is concerned, it directly correlates with the passage of time in real life, with a year equaling one year. Your character's age will be determined based on their age when created and how long they have existed since. This will be handled as an update to your Character Sheet. You are free to take this opportunity to make any necessary adjustments to your recent history, personality, attire or appearance. Time updates, aside from age, are purely voluntary and offer no substantial advantage. Every so often, there may also be time 'skips' where the timeline is fast-forwarded and characters will have to be updated to comply with it. Threads that take place in the past are allowed, so long as you're never in two places at the same time. However, threads set in the future are not permitted as other threads may render it null at any point.

Training Rules

  • Word counts can be separated into different posts and topics or typed all in the same topic.
  • You only have to reference having trained, your entire word count can be spent doing whatever you wish otherwise.
  • You may use as many different topics as you need to fulfill a word count requirement. Not everything needs to be in one thread.
  • When learning something alongside someone who already grasps it, the word count requirement is halved.
  • You may only use up to one thing, of any nature, each time to reduce the word count requirement.
  • EXP may only be used during time skips, spent on anything you gained over the skipped period of time, since your EXP quantity essentially gauges the rate at which your character grows so it's a good indication of how much they should've grown over a time skip.
  • When training with someone else, the whole sum of words you've typed throughout the topic may count towards training of multiple things or even one big thing.

Travelling Rules

The exit and entrance of any nation will require a travel topic. One topic in the nation you're departing from and one topic in the nation you're departing to. Each of these posts must be a minimum of 250 words per person traveling. Travel to different islands or continents may require a sea or air vessel, however. All teleportation magic is restricted to places the player has physically been to before.

Taming and Familiar Rules

  1. Before taming, summoning or otherwise bringing out any familiar, you must first visit the C

  2. While you may tame as many creatures as you wish, any who aren't traveling with you must be kept on a property or somewhere else in the roleplay world.

  3. The limit to how many familiars you may have in a thread is one for a Beginner in the relevant skill and increases by one for each increase in level, with the exception of Legendary level which will grant an additional two slots.

  4. You MUST fill out the Familiar Sheet in the Familiar Management board before you can RP with your pet.

  5. Your pet may not have any skill, stat, item, spell or move above their overall level.

  6. The max number of levels in stats and skills your familiar may have is determined by their overall level; all stats and skills start at Beginner level:
       - Beginner :: 2 levels for Stats and 3 levels for Skills
       - Novice :: 4 levels for Stats and 5 levels for Skills
       - Adept :: 8 levels for Stats and 10 levels for Skills
       - Advanced :: 12 levels for Stats and 15 levels for Skills
       - Expert :: 16 levels for Stats and 20 levels for Skills
       - Master :: 20 levels for Stats and 25 levels for Skills
       - Legendary :: 25 levels for Stats and 35 levels for Skills

  7. The max number of spells and/or moves a familiar may learn is also determined by their overall level:
       - Beginner :: 2 Spells/Moves
       - Novice :: 4 Spells/Moves
       - Adept :: 6 Spells/Moves
       - Advanced :: 8 Spells/Moves
       - Expert :: 10 Spells/Moves
       - Master :: 14 Spells/Moves
       - Legendary :: 20 Spells/Moves

  8. Beast Kings are subject to the same regulation and treatment as characters, as opposed to those outlined above.

  9. Should you go more than three real life months without roleplaying with a pet, they will return to the wild.
