    Yewian History (WiP) RBtWK6Y

  • YEAR 1-28

    Conquest of the Wilderness

The Holzelves and Valens who had traversed the short distance between the Serenian continent and the island of Yew in search of a new, safer place to settle and call home. They did not find that here. The wilderness was rife with plant-life that was poisonous, conscious and had a taste for blood. The beasts and monsters were no different. They were far more powerful and cunning than the creatures they were accustomed to in the mainland. Regardless, they fought and worked daily until the very first town was constructed by year 2. Not long after, several more settlements sprung up over the space of five years. These settlements grew rapidly due to the sheer number of islanders who sought protection from the uncharted wilderness surrounding them. It wasn't long before every settlement sent their leader to negotiate a union, which was successfully passed by all parties. The island would henceforth be dubbed Yew, or the Yewian Republic, and it would be a progressive nation which would welcome beings of all races, nationalities or walks of life. When it came to establishing civilization on the island, the government decided against the usual environmental destruction brought about by most civilizations. Instead, they founded the republic on the idea of coexisting with all living things. Structures were built along the trees and other plant-life, wild animals were hunted but their numbers conserved and they uncovered massive reserves of natural resources which could be easily extracted without damaging the environment. Sadly, this also meant that other nations were now eyeing them for their goods.

  • YEAR 28-98

    Era of Civilization

The Era of Civilization lasted from the Year 28 to the Year 89 and consisted of HEAVY investment in the nation's education system. A particular focus was made on magic and the various sciences. The former took the highest priority, however, as the island nation was overflowing with an abundance of mana and that meant a civilization founded on the power of magic would not only be possible but worthwhile. There was extremely little conflict for the Yewian people during this era, as no outside nations bothered them and they were left to focus on their magical and scientific endeavors. Quickly surpassing all other nations in the quality and power of their magical tools, Yew found prosperity in selling these goods to all willing buyers. In fact, every nation in Sosaria aside from Jazira partook in the trade, exporting Yew's magical tools, weapons and artifacts in colossal numbers. This generation of wealth was spent on improving the island's infrastructure, security and military foremost. Secondly, what was left was completely invested in the Department of Education, which would further magical and scientific advancement even further and the Department of Health, which ensured all citizens in the nation receive any and all care they may require in order to be functioning members of society. This includes provided food, clean water, shelter, bathing, clothing, education/training and further guidance. The idea is to make it so that the person is not only able to provide for themselves but contribute to society as well.

  • YEAR 98-144

    War of the Clans

In the beginning, none of the bestial clans (whom dominated the continent) could decide on which should ruler as leader of the new republic. This eventually spurred what would come to be known as "The War of the Clans". There were four contenders total: the Leoni clans, Canin clans, Serpen clans and even Avian clans. The Marens managed to stay out of the altercation entirely by settling their cities in places which would prove highly difficult to lay siege to. Moreover, none of the Maren clans had any interest in leading the republic. The war raged on for several decades with ten of thousands of lives lost in the brutal conflict. Clan borders were now erratic and almost like jumbled puzzle pieces. It was now, in the year 140, that the Maren people sent delegates to each of the bestial races with an offer. Each race would elect two representatives to join a central council. This council would rule over the continent and hold absolute authority. Even though there were many who opposed this solution, it was generally accepted and thus became the law of the land by the year 144. The Maderan Republic now knew stability and order for the first time in a long time.

  • YEAR 144-183

    Time of Progress and Development

The council passed a series of comprehensive legislation aimed at uniting the many clans under a single flag and nationality. They also implemented measures to teach young children magic, combat and the basic studies. In this time, many new cities were constructed and a new trade route was established each day. The Maderan Republic used a portion of their funds to even expand their manufacturing capacity, leading to even higher levels of wealth and goods being exported to the continent. This was a time of economic success and political stability for the Maderan Republic and it would continue all the way until 183, when council faced its greatest threat yet: insurrection. The Serpens had plotted to take control of the Republic for themselves, as the sole leaders of the continent. The rest of the council naturally rejected this notion and all-out war broke out. The Serpens, while but one race, were vast in number and had been plotting their rebellion for some time. The rest of the council struggled to keep them at bay, and the War of Scales began.
  • YEAR 183-233

    The Colonial Era

With the conquest of Yew, Anemos established a puppet government in order to transform the island nation into a colony. Every detail of the new governance was designed to maximize profits for Anemosian Confederacy. Freedom of speech, press and religion were all stifled. All religious artifacts, structures and sanctuaries were laid to waste and destroyed. The Yewian people were robbed of their culture, their resources, their wealth, their very lives and worst of all their dignity. Conditions only grew worse and worse, and rebellions even flared up across the island on a frequent basis, but Anemos continued to maintain control. More resistance simply meant more troops and they had plenty to spare. Thanks to the resources and goods taken from Yew, Anemos was able to become a dominant player in the global economy. This also helped their domestic economy greatly as the Yewians were forced to take on work Anemosians were simply too lazy and pampered to do.

  • YEAR 233-306

    The Rise of a Republic

The position of president was created by the council and the one appointed was none other than a Holzelven war hero by the name of Lukas Abelard. He united all of the clans across the territories and facilitated the exchange of knowledge, technology, produce and culture. Many roads were built and cities erected. The Yewian Republic was now a rapidly growing power with all sorts of races traveling from across Sosaria to see the land of wonderous magic, boundless opportunity and equality for all. With the money they made from the rapid increase in manufacturing and exporting, the council overhauled the military and granted President Abelard complete authority on how the new military forces of the nation would be organized. Abelard, being well educated in addition to highly experienced, accepted this task. By the year 306, Yew had some of the most well trained and organized troops in Sosaria and their navy was on par with even Serenum. At long last, the Republic of Yew stood on its own two feet.
